while i appreciate what you've done

the fact is the portal isn't a place to upload practice, teasers, trailers, or things you didn't feel like finishing (with some notable exceptions). there is a dumping grounds giving everyone the same amount of space to upload things like this without going through the portal. too much junk passes (since everything does nowadays) and it does not belong here. i think you have the start of something pretty solid, but this is not how you go about showing people.

that said, you took some nice new perspectives with sprites that i am not accustomed to seeing. i thought that part was refreshing, having seen countless sprite movies. the music is stale and boring, nothing special with no original audio. though sprites are overused (and poorly used too often) i have nothing against them, but it takes a lot to make them fresh. this wasn't a half bad effort.

use what you accomplished with perspective and build on it. get some voice actors and a script or maybe record your own audio - be unique and stand out in a sea of sprites. there are many great examples you can learn from.

but in the future, be an artist everyone can stand behind by only submitting finished works you think really represent your talent and abilities (because i see a fair amount). use the dumping grounds for things that need work or you are teasing for.

on principle of it not being finished, i can't score it very well, but i do see the makings of something actually worthy of a decent score coming soon. 2/5 and 4/10.

well then

i didn't expect to like this as much as i did. what a pleasant surprise! a great idea that you developed quite well and pulled off. i never would have thought of this. giving each its own personality and life was interesting to watch. i especially enjoyed the bicycle :P

great job. surprised and impressed, in a good way.

if you see only one stick movie this year...

this should certainly be under consideration. in fact, it hardly felt like i was watching a stick film. it's nice to finally see someone add a little depth with faces/facial features/voice acting - maybe there will be a shift that direction and away from more classic styles like xiao xiao. the settings were quite good, particularly the one with the bird. almost felt adam philips inspired, a nice change of pace.

i know it's a compilation, but i would have liked to see some of the stories progress further (especially the first scene - expertly done). very well animated and smooth, hope that everyone gets a chance to watch. now if only the sanctity of the portal could be returned, so flashes like this would get their due credit and not lumped in with rainbowdressup and passing, broken flashed.

excellent work.

thank you

thank you, sir, for your wonderful contribution. good reviews these days seem to be in short supply, which is really something to be worried about. I thank you for taking your time to try and educate the masses - even if you only get through to 1 or 2 people, the work has significance. between poor reviewing and voting nothing but 5s the portal truly has its best days behind it, at least at the moment. i hope that things like this are a watershed for returning to better times.

the only way i can think to make this better is put it in a format that more people enjoy. give them a family guy-esque clip with lots of scene changes and flashing lights and you've got an unbelievably effective message.

kudos to you for doing your part.

Thanks. I do my best!

not too shabby

i was pretty sure what i would encounter when i first looked at this game. naturally, i expected to be sniping stick figures, whether as one from third person, first person, or just as a normal person that likes death and destruction. so i wasnt shocked at this very much. i did have some goods and not-so-goods, however. i think ill share them with you right now...

graphics: a little on the iffy side. i did like the way everything was constructed. you had a pretty good landscape to view and search, and you managed to make pretty much everything combustable. liked that part. however, it seemed a little too hand-drawn and not entirely smooth. i may have missed something or been a little to rash in my judgment, but you can correct me if you like. still, not bad and far better than im capable of.

style: i think we have all played this type of sniping game before. what i think you should do (and maybe have planned) is turn this into another series like assassin. i did like the setup you had with the building and vehicles. the guy on fire was a nice touch. it wasnt the best quality, but you got the game across well and everything worked perfectly.

sound: at the beginning, the chopper was very grating to my ears. again, might just have been me, but i think it overrode and clashed too much with the background music. on the other hand, the music was good when you could hear it. also, the sound effects were pretty detailed for such a short game. good overall.

violence: i think this one is pretty obvious if you played the game. killing stick people is naturally the premise, and you certainly do get to do that. i like the blood on the walls, personall :P and the destroying of...well everything in there helped boost up this score. enjoyed how much you were able to pack in.

interactivity: think this one speaks for itself. you get to do all the shooting is i guess what makes it interactive. but since thats the eitire game, and you made it run smoothly, gotts score high.

humor: the little guy running around on fire gave me a few good chuckles. he just looked to funny with huge flames shooting out of his head. i had to laugh. didnt score too high, but got some because of this little detail.

overall: i think you really managed to pull this off well, considering the size of the actual game itself. i mean, there really isnt THAT much to do or accomplish, but you succeeded in making what there was fun and i actually played it through three times just to make sure i got everything. you managed to get every aspect of a review into this, and i think it deserved a little bit higher score.

6/10 and 3/5. id really like to see this become a multi-level, thought- and timing-based game. could be a lot of fun if your able to make something like that. and as always, comments are appreciated.

thanks and good luck.

interesting

to be honest, i had no idea what to expect when i first looked at this flash. i went into it thinking, this could be either really great, or absolutely terrible. to my surprise (As i thought it would be a little on the poor side) it was actually well-done. ill give you the run down now if you dont mind:

graphics: obviously, there really wasnt anything graphically in this submission. you just left everything black and orange, aside from the half life symbol (not ironically also black and orange). i would have liked to see some different pictures or drawings or something to make it appealing to look at and listen to. it was just extremely barren with only music links.

style: not much to comment on here. you did well making the overall flash. easy on the eyes layout, nothing complicated. i liked those aspects. but still, it just was lacking in pretty much everything else. maybe more colors too? just a thought.

sound: again, its hard to say much (but you probably dont believe that from the review, do you?). you did an excellent job with the quality of the music. it came out loudly and clearly. some of them were actually pretty good and easy to listen to. to be honest, ive only seen the game played once also :P but the sound was excellent. great job here.

violence: self-explanatory. nothing.
humor: same as violence

interactivity: i did have to click to play the songs right? maybe you could throw in a cheesy game to keep people listening and occupied longer. its tough to keep this up while doing other things.

overall: i think you did a great job with what you were trying to accomplish. you got the sound to come out well and had a wide variety of songs to choose from, all with decent lengths to keep you interested. would have liked more to be in the surrounding empty space, but thats just me. actually thought this was really well made. congrats.

5/10 and 3/5. would like to see more from you soon. also, a response would be much appreciated. thanks and good luck.

TheKGB responds:

Now there's a nice, in-depth REVIEW. Most people (including myself) just make 1 or 2 line comments about the flash, so this was really nice to see for a change.

Now it's time to review your review:

Graphics: ...

No, it's not. Anyway, thanks.

good job joker. this is pretty damn skippy. nice, slow, soothing sound. very calming, but somewhat ominous. probably my favorite of your songs. keep working with audio, id like to hear more.

ADT responds:

Thank you for reviewing my audio but I'm not sure if I'm going to make more audio!
